Yesterday we spent all day packing. You can't buy boxes here, rather you need to either grab them from the garbage next to stores or have a friend who will give you his boxes from his stores. Luckily Oleg Bogopolsky has a friend, so we got a bunch of boxes.
New Years is crazy in Russia. Since fireworks are legal for everyone to own, there is no planned event, rather there are like 50 of them, plus all of the private people who just shoot them off at home, in the street, or out the window. So much fireworks happen at once and for over an hour that it sounds like a popcorn machine.
Last night we watched a neighbor shoot rockets from his window. One of them smashed into the building across the street. We also saw some drunk guys singing in the street beneath us, and someone lighting fireworks in the middle of the road. Also, at about 12:45, all 3 firetrucks from the fire station near us raced to center of the city, sirens wailing. I wonder what happened.
For the next couple of days it's dangerous to go out into the streets, and most shluchim in Russia stay home.

Is that your new office/chabad house that the picture was taken in? Also... Miriam's already wearing skirts and long sleeve? Wow! She looks like those real Shluchim kids!
No, it's from the party. We must wait til the end of January before we rent a palce.
