Birthday party

Yesterday I received a phone call from one of the Gvirim in the community (part of a large family of Mountain Jews) who invited us to his daughters 16th birthday party. He arranged for his driver to pick us up.

We arrived at their cafe to find out that only his (giant) family had been invited, along with several non-Jewish friends, and of course, us.

It was just what we needed. We ate, made Lechaims and speeches, and discussed making his cafe kosher eventually.

One of the boys asked me to teach him some Torah. I got really excited, until I found out he's from Pyatigorsk, 3 hours from here. So iy"h every time he comes to town, we will learn together.

It was a fun night, and a reminder of who we are and what we are doing here.
